The Illinois Girls High School Select Side Rugby team is traveling to North Carolina to compete against other states' select side teams June 22nd to 26th.
The team is taking efforts to raise money to cover the travel expenses for girls that cannot afford the moderate travel costs and ensure that rugby is available to everyone regardless of their financial situation.
The Girls High School Tornadoes have players from several Chicago Public High Schools including Lindblom, Lane Tech and Taft as well as girls from Plainfield, Palatine, Bartlett. These girls have made a huge commitment to attend practices all over the Chicagoland area. Some girls have traveled up to 2 hours in each direction via public transportation.
In addition to competing against other select side teams, the girls will also be given a tour of the campus of Queens University of Charlotte. Queens University recently announced that they are adding rugby as a varsity sport to begin competition in Spring 2018.
